On 21 June 2024, our Indonesia team was at Al-Madiniyah Foundation’s Pusaka 41 Nursing Home, an elderly care home, in Cengkareng, Jakarta, Indonesia. The visit opened our eyes to the joy of sharing and fostering a compassionate community. We engaged with the residents of the home and donated a few essentials to support their well-being.
Background of Al-Madiniyah Foundation’s Pusaka 41 Nursing Home
Al-Madiniyah is a family foundation started by the late Mr H. OON Mardani, almost 28 years ago. Now run by his wife, Mrs Rusmini and daughter, Ms IIS Ismawati, the foundation mainly operates in the social sector, channelling donations from various entities to support those in need.
Currently, the Al Madiniyah Foundation supports more than 270 individuals, including 120 elderly people, 150 orphans, 20 people with disabilities, 50 widows, and 50 underprivileged individuals.
Panti Jompo Pusaka 41 (Pusaka 41 Nursing Home) is one of the places in Jakarta that the Al-Madiniyah Foundation supports. Currently, around 35 female senior citizens reside there, along with 8 of their caretakers.
Insightful Conversations
When we arrived, our team had the privilege of meeting Ms Ismawati as she welcomed us warmly into the home. She explained the background of the association and gave us a tour. We had the pleasure of engaging in meaningful conversations with some of the residents there and some of our Muslim staff also prayed together with them.
While we were there, a few of them shared their life stories. From painful struggles to sorrowful events, we listened attentively. A few of the residents chimed in with similar experiences, describing how hard they worked in their youth to support their families.
They prioritised their immediate families to the point that they didn't even bother to find a partner for themselves and settle down on their own. However, as they grew older and could no longer support themselves, their family members left them at the nursing home, turning their backs on them as if their sacrifices meant nothing.
Their stories opened our eyes to the harsh realities of loneliness and the meaning of true blood. Even though blood is thicker than water, it doesn't necessarily guarantee unfaltering loyalty or support. It reminds us everyone suffers differently and a little compassion can go a long way.
Meaningful Donation
After the meaningful conversations, we extended our support by giving out essential materials. Our contribution includes items such as dry food, daily necessities and medicine for the residents. We hope this donation uplifts and supports the elderly, helping them to stay engaged and positive. When it was time to say goodbye, we commemorated the day by having a photo session with the residents.
A Moment of Gratitude
Ms Ismawati expressed her gratitude for our contribution that day. She emphasised the positive impact our donations would have on the survival of the Al-Madiniyah Foundation. Additionally, she conveyed genuine hopes for WeTrade’s prosperity in the industry and extended well-wishes in our career paths.
“Thank you so much too for welcoming us. We hope our donations will help lighten the burden on the residents and help the nursing administrators buy the necessary equipment for the elders. We also hope that the elders were entertained by our presence here today. Honestly, we were truly inspired by their struggles and resiliency in life. We would be lucky to even possess half of their strength and perseverance.
